Alphild C. Johnson, 91, of Benson, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota.

Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.

Alphild Christine Johnson was born August 1, 1920, in Camp Lake Township, Minnesota to Emil Jacob and Clara Marie (Johnson) Johnson of rural Benson.

She was called from this life Thursday, May 24, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. She had attained the age of 91 years, nine months and 23 days. She grew up in Camp Lake Township, Minnesota, and moved to Benson in 1948. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.

Alphild attended rural school in District 14 through the eighth grade and graduated from Benson High School. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado Denver. She taught English & Speech in Beaver Creek, Starbuck, Appleton, Willmar and was the Librarian at Benson High School until her retirement.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. She enjoyed church activities, entertaining, television news and sports, and reading.

Alphild is survived by her sister-in-law, Yvonne Johnson of Benson; five nieces: Lynnea (Bob) Pritchett of Willmar, Coleen (Tom) Swanson of New London, Lori Tostenson of Benson, Cathy (Al) Jahde of Morrison, CO, and Janalee (Ross) Haugen of Plymouth; many great nieces and great nephews; and many other family and friends.

Alphild was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Clara; her sister, Elsie; and her brothers, Leslie, Walter and Verner.
